How do I increase my level as a tabber on here? I've now submitted 26 very good tabs. I started off as a "Tab Recruit", submitted (i think it was) 3 tabs and became a "Tabber". Now I've submitted a total of 26 very good tabs that aren't just converted guitar tabs that sound like crap, or just crap in general, and I'm still just a "Tabber". I see lots of people on here with less tabs than me, and also of much poorer quality than mine that are "Tab Addicts", "Tabbenators", and "Tab Masters" (well, maybe not the "Tab Masters"). Anyway, what do I need to do to increase my level of "Tabdom"?

That goes over it a bit. Don't get too flustered by the ranks. A big difference is also how long you have been here.

Thanks Tunder and No Life. So what is the time period you have to wait to advance from each level to the next?

It depends, how good tabs you have.
Just keep the tabs going :D
When you're tabs getting better and better and upload more, you have more chance to upgrade to a higher level.
I think it's not related to time. I think it depends on the qualities and provements ( is that a word for: vooruitgang? )

Regards,

Tunder

There are several people on here that should have their levels bumped up a notch (or 2). These people write REAL, accurate piano tabs (the best on here) with the highest proficiency:

NOLife
eug3n3 (his 'Welcome To The Jungle' should have the '1' rating removed)
Tabber Dude
Olesak (Maybe we can lure you back into action with a 'promotion'?)

We are lagging a little bit on the member level promotions, as they are not yet completely automated. But we will update you deserving members soon!

On a related note, we've added two new levels for those of you that were topped out. Keep those (high quality) tabs coming in to rise up the ranks! The criteria for raising your member level becomes more strict the higher the level.

What is the criteria for the new levels, all knowing one, and what are the new higher levels... Grand Master... Master of the Universe? Going back to an old suggestion I made early on (slightly modified for 7 levels) where you have to maintain a certain average on all your tabs (say '3.0' or better to get to 'Tabber', '3.5' or better to get to 'Tab Master', and maintain '4.0' or better to maintain your status as a 'Tab Master' or 'Grand Master'), how about...

1) Tab Recruit - 0-2 Tabs
2) Tab Apprentice - 3-10 Tabs
3) Tabber - 11-25 Tabs
4) Tab Addict - 26-49 Tabs
5) Tabbenator - 50-99 Tabs
6) Tab Master - 100-199
7) Grand Master Tabber - 200+ Tabs

As far as just the amount of time you've been a member, this really doesn't address when you get someone on here that is passionate and motivated, and is prolic at submitting lots of good, real piano tabs. Time as a member is too objective a qualifier. IMHO, it should be more subjective so you can addresses the individual's ability. If it's not, you could discourage those few good tabbers from continuing to submit their good tabs knowing they could sit back and do nothing after submitting a certain number of tabs because they're just going to have to wait a certain time period before they're promoted, anyway. Sincerely, DT.

I really really really oppose those distinct guidelines and (for the most part) automated ranks, at least in the upper levels. At the lower levels it isn't too bad, but when you get to the higher levels, there are plenty of way to manipulate things.

As DT mentions, time is a bad thing for ranking... ranks, but that is if it is the ONLY thing, like I said, if it isn't a definite thing, it may put off some people but then that just shows that people are doing it for the ranks rather than making good tabs and bettering the site as a whole.

I am sure the Admins will fine a balance with everything.

If these guidelines were used, people would HAVE to submit good tabs to improve their level (if that's all they're out to do), so it WOULD improve the quality of tabs submitted.

But that also means that your rank is at the whim of others? Since tab ratings are that. But then your list of ranks go on quantitative rather than qualitative. If the admins created a program for automating ranks then I think your idea is superb, but let's use your tabs as an example.

Not to rag on you or anything, I believe you deserve your rank and everything. But what if some one makes a bunch of tabs people have never heard before or isn't main stream? You have a ton of tabs that are good but if people don't know what they are, they probably won't view it or vote on it or if they do it will only be one or two. Would there have to be a minimum amount of votes to count as an average?

Just some questions to think about. I don't think there is an answer to this in one post. In most systems that use ranks and such, time is always important. While contributing ideas for this site as a whole more should be evaluated on tab ranks than just tabs.

Haha, or I have a personal bias on the number of tabs = rank. But I wouldn't mind being a Tabber, or a Tab Addict if the changes were made, because I just like listening to the songs I learn from sheet music by tabbing them on this site.

Let the discussion continue!

You're already a 'Tabbenator', though… and should be listed as a 'Tab Master', so why would you be a 'Tabber' or 'Tab Addict''???
As far as songs not getting recognized, I saw a post the other day by someone calling themselves 'Tab Guru' that said something that is 'sad', but true: Tab popular songs if you want to get high ratings. Unfortunately, this is just a fact. People are more likely to look at popular songs for the simple fact that they are popular than they are to look at an obscure, not-so-popular song. I play with a couple of different cover bands and we all have songs that are great that we like and jam on sometimes at rehearsals, but they just wouldn't go over well in the venues we play because they either don't have a danceable beat, or they are to obsure for the mainstream. hence, we don't ever get to play them live (although I would like to find somewhere we could play Styx's 'Prelude 12/Suite Madame Blue' because we really make that song sound great).
As far as people voting on your songs, there should probably be a committee of higher rated tabbers (5 or 10 honest, reliable people who have written good tabs) to oversee some sort of 'review' or 'appeal' process so if some 'dipshit' rates your tabs low, and the tabs are actually good, you get those low votes deleted, and the person that rated them low is sanctioned by maybe lowering their level and freezing their account (no more votes, no more submissions) for a certain period of time. A prime example is eug3n3's 'Welcome To The Jungle'. Some dipshit actually rated it a '1' when it's one of the best tabs on here. Sanctions should also be imposed on people that steal other peoples' tabs on here, and if they do it... say 3 times... then their account should be deleted. The admins could implement this since they capture everyone's URL.
One good thing I can think of would be to only enable tabbers of higher or equal levels to vote on other tabbers' tabs. There really seems to be no 'perfect' system, but there's a lot of ways to improve on the one used now. What kind of system would you suggest?

Good idea! If we want to implement it mathematically there level (1-10) could be seen as like multipliers for the voting like if they have a one their vote is times by 0.1 all the way up to 1.0 for a 10. Haha. I am not sure how that would be implemented in a simple and easy format that isn't too intimidating

i believe that your rank should go up according to the amount of views all your tabs have had total, i dont know if any1 else agrees but thats my 2 cents

That means your rank is based more on other people rather than your own prowess. Same thing can be said about voting but like BA mentioned, it is a combination of views, votes, and number of tabs someone has that contributes to your tab rank

Yeah I like the Da Tickler's idea...Its the same case as the "Highest Rated" page. For those who dont know, it used to be based on tabs which had the most 5 star ratings, with no other ratings. This use to lead to problems, as you would get people cheating the sytem to rate thier tab again and again, and also people giving a quality tab a low rating, just so it would fall out of the highest rated. This needs to be based on a number of factors.

Maybe give all high leveled tabbers the ability to bump up lower levelled tabbers? I suggest you need a reccomendation from two or three high level tabbers to bump up your level, to get consistency.
