Profiting From Sharing Music: The Debate Reignited




In case you missed it, the debate over music sharing was recently reinvigorated by a blog post from 20 year old Emily White, who admitted that she's only bought 15 CDs in her lifetime, yet, her entire iTunes library exceeds 11,000 songs. How can someone not feel guilty about taking food out of the mouths of helpless, starving musicians?

Professor Alex Sayf Cummings at Georgia State explains in this piece that attempts to bridge the gap between the two sides (the industry of old vs everyone else), while Bob Lefsetz gives us another perspective:

I believe artists should be paid. But that does not mean they should be paid the same way they used to be... We live in a land of misinformation. They like ... beating up on this little girl, because that takes the attention off of them and the heinous activities they're engaged in...
